The subject raises her hand in victory after defeating a group of Mechanon’s robot drones in New York City

Base of Operations: Millennium City, MI. USA

Group Affiliation: Squadron Academy

Alignment: Good

Motivation: Responsibility of power

Abilities: Like all members of the Gil’Tai  race, the subject has the ability to fly and to metabolize ambient ultraviolet energy. Through experimentation conducted by the Malvans, the subject has also gained the ability to discharge stored energy as destructive plasma, which is a super-heated state of matter consisting of charged subatomic particles. While flying or in combat, she is enveloped in a sheathe of plasma fire that makes proximity to her potentially fatal. She can increase the amount of ultraviolet radiation her body absorbs by assuming a “powered up” form that is an entirely non-reflective black, save for her eyes, which smolder with super-hot plasma.

Skills: Polyglot with a mastery of Gil’Tai, Malvan and North-American English, skilled hand-to-hand combatant and military strategist

Paraphernalia: N/A

Vulnerabilities: The subject has been known to enter a berserker rage especially when dealing with a powerful adversary.

Threat Level: Gamma

Unlike many Gil’Tai, Mari’anlar was not born on her homeworld of Ta’ran. Instead, she was born into slavery on Inimicitia, a planet still within the Malvan sphere of influence. Her owner, a Malvan noble named Vapidus, was a hedonist whose entire stable was dedicated to gladiatorial combat. Like her mother and her mother’s mother before her, Mari’anlar underwent training almost from birth in the martial arts so that she could compete in the brutal arena.

Under the tutelage of the Roin’esh who would later gain notoriety on Earth as the hero Ink (Registry No.: 925414), Mari’anlar developed into one of the most accomplished combatants in Vapidus’ stable. As she grew older, she became close friends with Jareen, her tutor’s son, and would often be paired with him in the arena. When Jareen was killed in the arena and his mother committed suicide in grief, Ink escaped captivity but not before killing Vapidus. With the loss of her only friend and the deaths of her parents in the arena years before, Mari’anlar was truly alone. Yet, in his act of rebellion, Ink had taught her a valuable final lesson – it was better to live free than die a slave.

Mari’anlar waited for an opportunity to escape. Her chance at freedom presented itself nearly a year later. Malum, the son of Vapidus, decided that Mari’anlar procreate with another Gil’Tai so that their offspring could augment his stable. When the transport ship Mari’anlar was aboard was fired upon by ships belonging to the alien race called the Suns of Goh, she blasted her way to an escape pod. The pod made its way to Earth, crash-landing in the Detroit River, where she was recovered by the Squadron Supreme and reunited with Ink.

Mari’anlar is slowly becoming acclimatized to life on Earth though the abuse she has suffered has toughened her. Due to her gladiatorial training, she sometimes enters a berserker-like rage in combat, during which she has no compunction about killing an adversary. To ease her adjustment to life on Earth, she has joined the newly-formed Squadron Academy.
